From the owners of Maine Hunting Today, comes a Legend, a truth, an inspiration, and an experience like no other. Read "The Legend of Grey Ghost and Other Tales from the Maine Woods."

Maine Outdoors Today has become the umbrella domain for all of the outdoor related web sites owned and operated by Steven and Thomas Remington. In August of 2003, Steve and Tom founded Maine Hunting Today, an on-line magazine which has a focus on hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. They believed that there were scores of hunters and fishermen interested in reading about real life adventures of other sportsmen. “Real stories from real people” became the backbone of their new magazine and it has grown at a pace that has been difficult to keep up with.

Without losing focus on Maine Hunting Today, Steve and Tom set out to create a resource for anyone whose interests are in the outdoors. Both men quickly realized that people were struggling to find a place on the Web where they could go and have at their fingertips one site that gave them everything they were looking for.

Understanding that Maine Hunting Today was becoming more focused on hunting and sometimes overshadowing fishing, Steve and Tom decided to split the two up. So they created Maine Fishing Today. While beginning to develop this new site, they went ahead and looked to the future and opted to generate a focus on several popular outdoor sports.

To date, Maine Outdoors Today looks something like this:

Maine Hunting Today – A hunting, fishing and recreation magazine that prides itself on finding stories from hunters all across America that have an interesting story they want to tell. With a staff of professional writers to compliment the “real” stories, there is no shortage of entertainment and education.

Maine Hunting Forums - Our hunting forums is a great place to kick back, relax and share stories and information with others from all over the world. Not entirely for hunting, the forums include topics of fishing, trapping, riding, and a Maine humor section as well. And if that isn’t enough, we have a free instant messenger program that will connect you to anyone world-wide for a chat in real time.

Maine Fishing Today – This is our magazine that focuses on all genres of fishing. Maine is one of the country’s richest fishing grounds and there are thousands of stories to be told and pictures to share. Maine Fishing Today is a valuable wealth of information and links for any fisherman.

The Outpost – Today we have over 100,000 products selected specifically for the outdoor sportsman. Some of the worlds finest equipment from suppliers such as Cabelas, Bass Pro, Sierra Trading Post, Bob Wards, Rocky Mountain Trail and FogDog.

Maine Hiking Today – Expanding into the vast wilderness of Maine and the thousands of hiking opportunities, Maine Outdoors Today will provide our readers with reviews from hikers from all over the world. We will share pictures and information. When you visit Maine Hiking Today, you will be able to find a hike that suits your ability, obtain useful information about that hike, including maps and directions, and be able to purchase all the necessary equipment to make your experience on the Maine trails safe and enjoyable.

Maine Deer – Man has been fascinated by the whitetail deer for centuries. They are found readily throughout the landscape of Maine but remain wild enough to elude the casual observer. Because of our own love of the animal and respect that we share with thousands of others, we decided to dedicate the web site just for the Maine whitetail deer. There you will find photos and statistics. You will be able to learn much about the animal and view some extraordinary pictures.

Outdoor Web Hosting – For anyone interested in creating their own web sites, Maine Outdoors Today has its own web hosting service. If you want a web site you’ll need someone to host it for you and we can do that at unbelievably low monthly prices. Visit our site and find a unique domain name. You can purchase that at the site as well.

We hope that tells you a lot about Maine Outdoors Today, its successes and goals for the future. We would like to take a bit of your time and tell you some about Steve and Tom.

Both Steve and Tom are Maine natives and both grew up in Bethel, Maine. Steve was born on August 16, 1975 in Norway, Maine. He has one older sister and a niece. He attended Bethel schools and graduated from Telstar Regional High School in 1993. While at Telstar, he played many sports including soccer, skiing and baseball lettering in all three sports.

He went on to Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire and received a BS degree in Management in 1998. Shortly after graduation, he met his future wife, now a Veterinarian, and they have 4 children. Steve and his family live and work in Bangor, Maine.

Steve co-authored a book with his father, Tom, called “The Legend of Grey Ghost and Other Tales from the Maine Woods”. His love of sports, the outdoors and writing combined with his degree in Management, adds invaluable quality to Maine Outdoors Today and all of his ventures.

Tom was born in Rumford, Maine on July 4, 1952 and grew up in Bethel. He has three older brothers and one younger sister. He attended local schools including Gould Academy for two years and finally graduating from Telstar Regional High School in 1970. While at Telstar, he participated in football, skiing, track and field and baseball lettering in all his sports. He also attended the University of Maine at Farmington.

Tom caught his first fish with a stick, a piece of string and a safety pin. He began hunting, fishing, camping and enjoying the outdoors from a very young age.

Discovering his love for writing later in life, Tom co-authored a book with his son, Steve, called, “The Legend of Grey Ghost and Other Tales from the Maine Woods.” He is also a contributing writer and managing editor of Maine Hunting Today. You can read many of his stories there and enjoy much of his humor at his “therapy” site, Laugh Maine.
