Tips On Tent Camping In Cold Weather And In Northern Maine Along With a Good Moose Hunt Story
I was blog searching for posts about Patten Maine and hit on a blog by a guy who had stopped in Patten on the way to spend some memorable time out in the vast forest that lays way up in most northerly part of that great state and connects over into Canada. He has a real good photo on the blog of Mt. Katahdin, as seen from the road into Patten. I wrote a story about some wild car chase action I witnessed on that section of Route 11. That story is titled Bananastein.
I made a copy of his photo and used it for a nice background on my computer monitor.
Later, I went back and read the whole blog. It is full of some of the best advice and downright important rules of cold weather tent camping + fire safety + camping or any kind of outdoors adventure in The North Maine Woods + getting to know the local Mainer population + how to get the most out of a Moose hunt. It starts out with an outstanding field test of a canvas tent and how to customize it for optimal performance.
This guy’s blog has taught me some fire safety rules that no tent camper should ever break. It has also shown me that those Mainer folks up there are still as helpful to travelers in need as they were in 1970, when my story titled My VW Bug Trip To Maine took place.
I went looking for new versions of old memories and sure enough found them on this guy’s blog. But I also learned a few rules about cold weather tent camping that should never be broken. Now I just gotta’ get me a good canvas tent and some camping time out in the cold weather.
Here’s his blog address.
